Unseasonal

Mapping a cycle of lovers against the shifting, volatile seasons, Owen Torrey’s stunning debut, Unseasonal, explores queer desire and memory’s complex overlays of past and present. “There’s a sound the wind makes now / that there is so little left to touch,” writes Torrey in one of many skillful, incantatory poems, whose winter fields, summer cities, and stark galleries are rendered as intimately as the changing quality of light through a bedroom window, as lastingly as a tattoo that “begins to live beneath the skin.” Erotic, elegant, and insightful, Unseasonal marks the emergence of a captivating new voice.
